The Control of Breathing and Airway Defense (CoBAD) International Online Seminar Series featured Bill Milsom, PhD, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Zoology, University of British Columbia, & Graham Scott, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, McMaster University, on Friday, April 9th at 3:00 pm ET. The Milsom Lab studies evolutionary trends in the control of breathing as well as respiratory, cardiovascular, thermoregulatory, and metabolic adaptations for life in environments with low/high levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, temperature, food, and water. The Scott Lab studies how the respiratory and metabolic systems of vertebrates adjust to challenging environments and how they adapt over evolutionary time. Their seminar was entitled: “Control of breathing in birds and mammals native to high altitude.”
