Sabhya Rana Wins Poster Award at NCF SfN

Sabhya

Dr. Sabhya Rana recently won the Postdoctoral Poster Prize at the 13th Annual Conference of the North Central Florida Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. She presented her work on the use of Ampakines to restore breathing in a rodent model of spinal cord injury. Dr. Rana’s work (funded by SCIRTS Craig Neilsen Foundation fellowship) shows that a low dose systemic administration of low impact ampakines (CX717) can increase diaphragm activity and overall ventilation in rats following a contusion type injury in the mid-cervical region. This study lays the groundwork for the use of ampakine based pharmacotherapy to enhance respiratory output for eventual translation into human use following SCI. Congratulations, Dr. Rana!
