Research focus: My interest lies in developing safer, more effective and targeted non-pharmacological interventions for Central Nervous System (CNS) rehabilitation. Over the past decade, I have been particularly interested in pioneering strategies that are central to restoring function after CNS injury, specifically 1) neuromodulation to electrically or optically reactivate and rewire spared circuits, and 2) guided axonal regeneration to rebuild lost connections. My ongoing research at Professor Erica Dale’s laboratory focuses on understanding how prolonged epidural stimulation restores breathing function after spinal cord injury.
What drives me: I am driven by the impact of our work in the lab, especially when small scientific achievements translate into real benefits for people and bring genuine smiles to their faces.
What I like most about the BREATHE Training Program: BREATHE Training Program offers a real sense of community. You’re working alongside top experts in breathing research who are accessible and supportive. Collaboration happens easily because people genuinely care about the work and each other’s growth. It’s a positive space that encourages growth, connection, and well-being.
What I like about Gainesville: Coming from a big city, I love Gainesville’s calm, greenery and energetic, youthful vibe, with walks through parks and trails perfect for walking, running, or cycling.
Why I chose BREATHE at the University of Florida: During my visit, I was struck by the incredible community at BREATHE Center, people who make science collaborative, inspiring, and genuinely enjoyable. Being surrounded by such passionate and innovative researchers creates an environment where learning, creativity, and discovery thrive.
What makes the BREATHE Training Program unique? BREATHE Center is a unique place where personal development is taken very seriously, the coordinators and staff are always ready to help, and it’s a place full of opportunities to learn, grow, and collaborate.
What I do for fun: For fun, I explore new places, taste new foods, play team sports, and have play dates with my nieces.
